Isang now severe tropical storm; out of PAR by Sunday

MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Sunday “Isang” has intensified into a several tropical storm as it approaches the waters off Miyako Islands in the southern Ryukyus.

As of 4 a.m. Sunday, PAGASA weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin said the center of “Isang” was estimated at 560 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.

It is moving northwestward at 20 km per hour with maximum sustained winds of 95 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph.

Bulquerin said it is unlikely to directly affect the weather condition and bring heavy rainfall in the country throughout the forecast period.

He added that the several tropical storm will likely exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Sunday afternoon.

Several parts of the country, however, will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), he added.

Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Soccsksargen, Bataan, Zambales, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to ITCZ.

For Metro Manila and the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail due to ITCZ or localized thunderstorms.

Light to moderate winds will blow over the whole country moving southwest to southeast with slight to moderate coastal waters.

The minimum temperature is 25.6 °C and the maximum temperature is 32 °C. (PNA)
