MARIVELES, Bataan – The Bataan Maritime Police on Wednesday arrested a boat skipper and 12 crew members of a commercial fishing vessel off this town.

Maj. Leoncio P. Alcantara, Jr., chief of the Maritime Police here, said on Thursday the suspects were arrested while illegally fishing more or less three kilometers from the shoreline of Barangay Alas-Asin.

Police seized from the suspects 35 kilos of assorted fish, 150 fish tubs, 200 meters of fishing net, a boat engine, and the fishing boat.

The report showed that Patrolmen Erick Idos and Dexter Pacaro were on patrol onboard a rented motorized boat when they intercepted fishing boat “Migo” skippered by Rolando Tria, 62, of Barangay Lamao, Limay town.

Tria, his crew, and the confiscated pieces of evidence were brought to the Bataan Maritime Police Station for proper documentation and disposition.

The suspects would be charged with violation of Republic Act 10654, otherwise known as “An Act to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, amending Republic Act No. 8550, known as the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998”. (PNA)
